Players now and Servers now - at the last check, every 10 minutes. Average - real players at any moment over the period, day and night, so it is lower than the evening numbers. Share - of all real players over the period. Trend - against the period before. Fake servers are left out everywhere.

What each mode is

Public
Public servers are plain Counter-Strike with a crowd: usually one map all day (Mirage and Dust2 above all), 20 to 64 slots, no rank needed and no waiting for a lobby. Most of them add a skin changer, a shop or free VIP on top, and the big hostings run dozens of such servers from one IP.
Bhop
Bhop servers are about movement: auto bunny hop, strafes and speed. Many of them are ordinary public servers with bhop switched on (the "BHOP MIRAGE" kind), others run bhop_ maps against the clock.
AWP
AWP servers give everybody the sniper rifle. awp_lego_2 is the map here, with its towers and open lanes, where one missed shot costs the round.
Zombie
Zombie servers run Zombie Escape (ze_ maps) and Zombie Mod. In Escape the humans run through a long level while the infected chase them, holding doors and triggers on the way; in the plain mod a few players turn into zombies at the start of the round and infect the rest.
5v5 / Matches
5v5 servers are the community's own matchmaking: a 10-player lobby, knife round, a match on one map, often with its own ELO and an anti-cheat. Platforms like Cybershoke, XPLAY and FACEIT-style ladders run hundreds of these servers, each one busy only while a match is on.
1v1 Duels
Duel servers put players in small arenas in pairs: a round lasts seconds, you fight one opponent at a time, and the arena maps (duels_mirage_1x1, aim_map) hold many pairs at once. The usual way to warm up aim before a match.
Deathmatch
Deathmatch servers take the rounds away: you respawn a second or two after you die, pick your guns from a menu and carry on. FFA means everyone against everyone. The usual place to practise aim without matchmaking.
AIM
AIM maps are small open arenas where both teams spawn facing each other, often with one weapon handed out to everybody. No objective, a round takes seconds, so the only thing that matters is aim.
HvH
HvH (hack vs hack) servers are where people with cheats play against each other on purpose. Many of them run old CS:GO builds and are shown as Legacy CS:GO.
Surf
Surf comes from a quirk of the engine: on a steep slope you slide instead of falling, and holding a strafe key turns the slide into flight. Surf maps are long ramps over empty space, with tiers from T1 for beginners to T6, timers and ranks.
Retake
Retake servers replay the end of a round: the Terrorists spawn at a planted bomb, the Counter-Terrorists spawn around the site and have to take it back and defuse. Short rounds, real match situations, no buy time.
KZ
KZ (Kreedz Climbing) is climbing a map from start to finish against the clock with long jumps and bunny hops, with checkpoints on the way and records kept on the server.
Other
Servers that don't fit any of the modes above, or mix several of them: fun servers, custom mods and everything in between.
Minigames
Minigames servers run mg_ maps: a set of small games in one map, from parkour to deathrun, chosen by vote.
JailBreak
JailBreak splits the server into guards and prisoners. The guards give orders and run little games, the prisoners obey or try to break out. jb_ maps are built for it, and the last prisoner alive usually gets a last request.
Arms Race / GunGame
Arms Race and GunGame: everybody starts with the same weapon and gets the next one for every kill, up a fixed ladder of guns. The first player to get a kill with the last one wins. ar_ maps are the official ones, gg_ maps the community's.
Hide and Seek
Hide and Seek: one team hides, usually with knives only, the other hunts them down. seek_ maps are made for it, with props to hide behind and places to climb.
Wingman
Wingman on community servers: 2v2 on the small wingman versions of the maps, one bombsite, short rounds.
