AUG Guide for Counter-Strike 2
Damage, spray, the scope, and when it is worth $400 over an M4.
The AUG is the CT side's scoped rifle. It costs $3,300, $400 more than either M4, and gets 90% of its damage through armour against the M4s' 70%. The scope stretches its accurate range from 28.2 to 38.3 metres, the longest of any rifle.
The trade-off is damage per bullet and time. With 28 a bullet, the AUG one-taps a helmeted opponent only inside about 5 metres, and past that it takes five chest hits through armour instead of four. It fires 600 rounds a minute, like the AK, and its 3.8-second reload is the slowest of any rifle. This page goes through the numbers, the spray, when to buy it, and the skins and cases.

AUG at a Glance
The full stat sheet, straight from the game.
Every number below comes from the game build of 18 March 2026. Two of them define the AUG: a $3,300 price and a scope that stretches accurate range to 38.3 metres. It is the most expensive rifle in the game and the only scoped one on the CT side. What it gives up is damage - 28 a bullet, the lowest of any rifle, which is why it one-taps a helmeted opponent only at very close range.
Damage and money
| Price | $3,300 |
| Kill reward | $300 |
| Side | CT only |
| Base damage | 28 |
| Armour penetration | 90% |
| Headshot multiplier | 4x |
| Damage lost at 500 units | 2% |
| Wall penetration | 200% |
| One-tap range, helmet | 197 u (about 5 m) |
| One-tap range, no helmet | 2,805 u (about 71 m) |
Handling and ammo
| Rate of fire | 600 RPM |
| Magazine | 30 |
| Reserve | 90 (120 total) |
| Reload | 3.77 s (mag in at 1.53 s) |
| Deploy | 1.17 s |
| Mobility | 220, scoped 150 (knife is 250) |
| Tagging power | 60% |
| Accurate range, standing | 28.2 m (scoped 38.3 m) |
| Running inaccuracy | 140.9 (scoped 109.4) |
| Recoil | Set pattern |
| Console command | give weapon_aug |
The weak spot is time. The AUG has the slowest reload of any rifle, 3.8 seconds, and the slowest deploy, 1.17 seconds. With the scope up you move at 150 instead of 220, so the scope is for holding an angle, not for walking into one. On the move without the scope it does better than the AK - 140.9 against 182 - but that still means stopping before you shoot.
AUG Damage & Armour
What one bullet does, and how many it takes.
Everything here assumes a full-health player at close range. Armour means kevlar on the body and a helmet on the head. The general rules behind these numbers are on the weapons hub.
Damage per bullet
| Hitbox | No armour | Armour | Bullets to kill, no armour | Bullets to kill, armour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Head | 112 | 100.8 | 1 | 1 |
| Chest and arms | 28 | 25.2 | 4 | 4 |
| Stomach | 35 | 31.5 | 3 | 4 |
| Legs | 21 | 21 | 5 | 5 |
Two numbers here sit right on the edge. A helmeted headshot does 100.8 and four chest hits through armour add up to the same 100.8 - less than one point over what it takes to kill. That is why both only work at very close range: a few metres of distance take away the spare 0.8.
Where the AUG holds up
Like the AK, the AUG loses only 2% of its damage for every 500 units of distance. Most of its bullet counts stay the same far out, but the two edge cases above do not:
| Shot | Works up to |
|---|---|
| Stomach through armour - 4 bullets | 5,720 u (about 145 m) |
| Head, no helmet - 1 bullet | 2,805 u (about 71 m) |
| Chest, no armour - 4 bullets | 2,805 u (about 71 m) |
| Stomach, no armour - 3 bullets | 1,208 u (about 31 m) |
| Legs - 5 bullets | 1,208 u (about 31 m) |
| Head, helmet - 1 bullet | 197 u (about 5 m) |
| Chest through armour - 4 bullets | 197 u (about 5 m) |
Past each of those distances the count goes up by one. Damage is multiplied by 0.98 for every 500 units of distance, and it drops smoothly in between. Five chest hits through armour kill out to 5,720 units, about 145 metres, and two helmeted headshots kill at any distance you will meet on a map.
What this means in a fight
Inside 5 metres the AUG kills through armour in four chest hits, 0.30 seconds at 600 rounds a minute - the same as the AK. Past that it needs five, 0.40 seconds. That is slower than the M4A4's 0.36 and the same as the M4A1-S past 13 metres. So on body shots the AUG is not faster than the M4s it costs more than. What you pay for is the scope and the armour penetration, which keeps five hits working out to 145 metres.
AUG Recoil & Spray
Where thirty bullets go, and how to pull them back.
The AUG fires 600 rounds a minute, one bullet every 100 milliseconds. A full magazine of 30 is gone in about three seconds. The recoil pattern follows the same overall path every time you spray, which is why spray control can be learned. On top of it sits a little random spread that grows the longer you hold the trigger.
The dots show where each bullet goes if you hold the trigger and don't touch the mouse. The dashed line is where you aimed, and the white dot is the latest shot. The panel on the right is the mouse movement that cancels it - the same path turned upside down and mirrored. ×1 plays at real speed, ×0.5 and ×0.25 slow it down, and Step by step fires one bullet per click with Next shot.
The spray, shot by shot
- Shots 1-3. Barely move. The first three bullets land almost where you aimed.
- Shots 4-6. Almost straight up, shot 5 a little to the right. Pull down.
- Shots 7-10. Up and to the left, furthest left at shot 10. Pull down and to the right.
- Shots 11-15. The climb stops and the spray drifts back towards the middle. Ease off to the left.
- Shots 16-20. A sharp swing to the right, furthest out at shot 19. Pull left.
- Shots 21-24. Back to the middle. Pull right.
- Shots 25-27. Out to the left, furthest at shot 27. Pull right.
- Shots 28-30. Back towards the middle. Pull left a little.
From shot 11 on, the spray hardly goes higher. The AUG climbs less than the AK, but the swing to the right at shots 16-20 is fast and wide.
With the scope
The right mouse button brings up the scope. Scoped, the accurate range goes from 28.2 to 38.3 metres, and you move at 150 instead of 220. The viewer above shows the spray without the scope.
How to actually use it
The first ten shots are the part worth drilling - a pull down, then down and to the right. By shot 10 an armoured opponent should already be dead: past 5 metres the AUG needs five chest hits (see Damage & Armour).
Spray control will not make the AUG accurate on the move. Its running inaccuracy is 140.9, better than the AK's 182 but still far from standing still. Tapping the opposite movement key - counter-strafing - brings you to a stop faster than just letting go of the key.
At long range, scope in and tap with a short pause between shots rather than spraying.
Did the spray change in 2026?
No. In April 2026 Valve changed how the screen moves when you fire, so it feels closer to CS:GO. Where the bullets land stayed the same. I also checked the pattern offline, on a private server, against my own Logitech G HUB Lua script for the AUG: its mouse path lines up with these 30 shots. I don't recommend using scripts like this in Competitive or Premier.
When to Buy the AUG
What an AUG round costs, and when it beats the M4.
The AUG is a full-buy rifle. It only makes sense when you can afford it with armour, the kit and your grenades - otherwise an M4 or the FAMAS does the job for less.
What a full buy adds up to
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| AUG | $3,300 |
| Kevlar + helmet | $1,000 |
| Defuse kit | $400 |
| Smoke | $300 |
| Incendiary | $500 |
| HE grenade | $300 |
| Total | $5,800 |
The same buy with either M4 costs $5,400, and with the FAMAS $4,450. If $400 more for the AUG means dropping the kit or a grenade, take the M4.
AUG or M4
With the full $5,800, it comes down to the fight you expect. The AUG has the scope, 38.3 metres of accurate range, and 90% armour penetration. The M4A4 kills through armour faster past 5 metres, 0.36 seconds against 0.40, and both M4s reload in 3.1 seconds against the AUG's 3.8. On a long angle I would take the AUG; for close fights and retakes, an M4.
AUG without armour
Don't. At $3,300 the AUG with no armour costs more than a FAMAS with kevlar and a helmet ($2,950). Without a helmet, every rifle in the game can kill you with one headshot, and the AUG's scope doesn't change that.
Against an eco
The AUG pays $300 a kill, like every rifle. Most SMGs pay $600. If the Ts are saving and you don't have a rifle yet, an SMG like the MP9 earns twice as much per kill and kills unarmoured players fast enough.
Dropping one for a teammate
At $3,300 the AUG is the most expensive rifle to drop. If a teammate just needs a rifle, a FAMAS costs $1,350 less, and an M4 $400 less.
AUG vs Other Rifles
What the AUG does better, and what it gives up.
The AUG wins on range and armour penetration, and loses on damage per bullet and reload time. How much that matters depends on who you compare it with. The table below has all the numbers side by side.
vs M4A4
$400 cheaper and the rifle most CTs buy instead. Without the scope the two are close: 28.2 metres of accurate range against 27.7, and almost the same running inaccuracy, 140.9 against 143.4. The M4A4 kills through armour in 0.36 seconds out to 60 metres, while the AUG needs 0.40 seconds past 5 metres. The AUG has the scope and a helmet one-tap inside 5 metres; the M4A4 has 150 rounds to the AUG's 120 and reloads 0.7 seconds faster. More in the M4A4 guide.
vs M4A1-S
Also $400 cheaper, with 20 rounds a magazine against 30. Up to about 13 metres the M4A1-S kills through armour in four hits, 0.30 seconds; past that both rifles need five, 0.40. Past 58 metres the M4A1-S needs a sixth, while the AUG keeps five out to 145. The M4A1-S is quieter, has no tracers and is better on the move (127.4 against 140.9). The AUG has the scope. Details in the M4A1-S guide.
vs FAMAS
$1,350 cheaper and the CT's force-buy rifle. Up close the FAMAS kills through armour in 0.36 seconds against the AUG's 0.40, but past 15 metres it needs six hits and falls behind. The AUG is accurate much further out, 38.3 metres scoped against 18.6 in full auto. When one is worth more than the other is in When to Buy above, and the rest in the FAMAS guide.
vs SG 553
The T side's scoped rifle, $300 cheaper. The SG 553 has 100% armour penetration, so a helmeted headshot kills out to about 115 metres, where the AUG manages 5. It kills through armour in four chest hits, 0.33 seconds, and reloads a full second faster, 2.8 against 3.8. The AUG fires faster, 600 rounds a minute against 545, and its scope reaches a little further, 38.3 metres against 37.1. Details in the SG 553 guide.
The AK-47 and Galil AR are T-side only and have their own guides: AK-47 and Galil AR.
Rifle Stats Table
All seven rifles side by side, with the AUG already open.
This is the same table as on the weapons hub, but filtered down to rifles. The AUG row is open with its damage per hitbox and full stats, and it is already ticked for comparison with the M4A4, M4A1-S and SG 553. Untick any of them, or tick the AK-47, FAMAS or Galil AR instead - up to four at a time.
Click a column header to sort. The AUG row shows the rifle without the scope, and the scoped numbers are in its card under variants. The M4A1-S is listed without the silencer, like in the source sheet. The full table with all 36 weapons is on the weapons hub.

Stats from the CS2 Weapon Spreadsheet, game build of 18 March 2026. Shotgun damage is per pellet. Headshot ranges are converted from game units at 39.4 units per metre. Zeus and knife values come from the game files rather than the sheet.
AUG Skins & Cases
AUG skins by market listings and price, and where they come from.
Three ways to look at AUG skins. Most listed are the ones with the most offers across the markets I track, in other words the ones currently offered most often. Most expensive are the skins that stay expensive even in their cheapest wear. Cheapest are the ones that stay cheap even in their best wear. Prices update every 15 minutes, and the range on each card runs from the cheapest variant to the most expensive one, wear and StatTrak included.

Every case that can drop an AUG skin, newest first. The number under each case is how many AUG skins it holds.
AUG skins that never came from a case
Some AUG skins come from map collections, operations, or the Armory instead of cases. Collections marked "souvenir" also come in souvenir packages from Majors.
Browse all CS2 cases and all collections, or check what your own skins are worth with the Inventory Value Calculator.
Common AUG Mistakes
Small habits that cost rounds, and what the numbers say instead.
Reloading after every fight
Since the 18 March 2026 update, a reload throws away whatever is left in the magazine and takes a full one from your reserve. The AUG has three spare magazines of 30, so a reload with ten rounds still in the gun throws away a third of a magazine. How this habit caught me out is in the AK-47 guide.
The second reload mistake is reloading when you are not safe. From pressing R to being able to shoot again the AUG needs 3.8 seconds, the slowest of any rifle. Only reload when you are sure nobody can swing on you for almost four seconds.
Buying it without the full buy
The AUG is $400 more than an M4 and $1,350 more than the FAMAS. If buying it means no helmet, no kit or no grenades, one of those rifles with a full buy is the better choice for the round. The numbers are in When to Buy.
Counting on the helmet one-tap
A helmeted headshot does 100.8 damage, so the AUG one-taps a helmeted opponent only inside about 5 metres. Past that the same bullet does just under 100, and you need a second hit anywhere on the body.
Moving with the scope up
Scoped, you move at 150 instead of 220. Walking between angles with the scope up makes you slow and easy to hit. Scope in when you stop on an angle, not before.
Spraying all thirty
After the tenth bullet the AUG spray swings hard to the right and back, and the random spread keeps growing. An armoured opponent needs five chest hits past 5 metres, so the first ten bullets are what matters. The spray section shows where the rest go.
Shooting on the move
The AUG's running inaccuracy is 140.9. That is better than the AK's 182, but a spray on the move still goes wide. Stop first: tapping the opposite movement key - counter-strafing - brings you to a stop faster than just letting go of the key.
Buying it against an eco
The AUG pays $300 a kill, most SMGs pay $600. Against players with no armour an SMG kills fast enough and earns twice as much. More in When to Buy.
More Rifles
The other six rifles in CS2, starting with the AUG's T counterpart.
SG 553
The terrorist-exclusive SG 553 is a premium scoped alternative to the AK-47 for effective long-range engagement.

M4A4
More accurate but less damaging than its AK-47 counterpart, the M4A4 is the full-auto assault rifle of choice for CTs.

M4A1-S
With a smaller magazine than its unmuffled counterpart, the silenced M4A1-S provides quieter shots with less recoil and better accuracy.

FAMAS
A cheap option for cash-strapped players, the FAMAS effectively fills the niche between more expensive rifles and the less-effective SMGs.

AK-47
Powerful and reliable, the AK-47 is one of the most popular assault rifles in the world. It is most deadly in short, controlled bursts of fire.

Galil AR
A less expensive option among the terrorist-exclusive assault rifles, the Galil AR is serviceable weapon in medium to long-range combat.
