Inferno came with version 1.1 in March 2001, together with Dust II and Vertigo. Christopher "Barney" Auty, who also made Aztec, built it in about two weeks.

The 1.6 Inferno is not the Italian village of later games. It is a rebel stronghold in a small Middle Eastern village, and the Terrorists are there to blow up oil pipelines. Narrow streets and short sightlines make it a map for grenades and close fights.
