CS2 SteamID Extractor
Upload a demo, get every player's SteamID64 and nickname out of it.
A demo is not a video. It is a recording of what the client and server said to each other - packets, entity updates, string tables, events. The player list is in there, and it stays there no matter what anyone renames themselves afterwards.
Drop a .dem file below, up to 40 MB. Nothing is uploaded anywhere permanent, and the result is a plain list you can copy.
Steam IDs from Counter-Strike DEMO files
To obtain the most accurate information about SteamIDs, at least one full round must be recorded in the demo file - specifically, the end of one round and the beginning of the next
How It Works
What the parser looks for, and what you can do with the result.
Reading a whole demo would be slow and pointless. Instead the tool goes straight to the block where the game keeps player identities, matches the hex signature that marks a SteamID, reads the four bytes holding the account number, and converts them to SteamID64. The nickname sits right before it in the stream, so it comes along for free. Duplicates get dropped - one line per player.
Using it
- Pick a
.demfile, up to 40 MB. - Click Extract SteamID64.
- You get a nickname and a SteamID64 for each player found.
For a full round of connection events, the demo should cover at least the end of one round and the start of the next.
What it is good for
- Adding someone from a match you did not friend in time.
- Checking whether the account in a report is the one you played against.
- Looking up a suspicious player's profile and ban history.
The demo keeps the ID even if the player renames themselves or locks the profile afterwards.
The parser returns the ID and the name, nothing else. For the profile behind it - avatar, bans, inventory, friends - paste the result into the SteamIDs Lookup. If you want to know what the formats mean in the first place, that is in the Steam ID guide.
CS2 SteamID Extractor FAQ
What the parser can and cannot do.
Does it work with CS:GO demos?
Yes. CS:GO and CS2 both use the Source demo format, and the player data sits in the same kind of structure. The same file goes through either way.
Does it work with CS 1.6 demos?
No. CS 1.6 uses the GoldSrc demo format, which this tool doesn't support. Use the CS 1.6 Demo Analyzer to extract player IDs, match statistics, kills, rounds and chat from HLTV or client demos.
Do the demos need to be VAC-secure?
No. SteamIDs are written into any demo that contains player connection data, secure server or not.
Will it find players who left before the end?
Yes, as long as they connected during the recorded part. Leaving early does not remove anything that was already written.
How long does the demo need to be?
Enough to cover the end of one round and the start of the next. That window carries the connection events, and a shorter clip may miss some players.
What if the file is damaged?
Partial damage usually still yields something - the tool reads what it can. If the structures it looks for are broken, the result comes back short or empty.
Can SteamIDs be stripped from a demo?
Not by anything the player does. The ID is part of the network data the recording is made of. If they were in the match, it is in the file.
Can the same player show up twice?
They can appear more than once in the raw data - reconnects, for instance - but the tool keeps only the first occurrence.
Can I get profile details here?
No, only the ID and the nickname. Paste the ID into the SteamIDs Lookup for the avatar, bans and inventory.
